As a makeup blogger, I purchase new makeup a lot of the time. With buying new makeup, comes products that I am not going to love, as well as the ones I love. Personally, I read a lot more posts about the products people are loving than the ones they don’t love. Seeing as every single person is going to come across at least one product that they just don’t get on with, I thought I would share with you the ones I have found.
Before I get into the products themselves, this post is just my personal opinion. If these are your favourite products and you have got them too work for you I would love to know how!
MUA Winged Felt Liner
I purchased this from Superdrug and was really looking forward to using it, I hadn’t used a felt liner for a while yet remember really enjoying them. So, I wanted to try one. There was two I could have chosen from in the MUA range, but I went with this one. The first time I used it, I knew, it was not for me. The nib was a sort of paddle shape, it was flat and quite thick. As soon as I opened was a little worried about how this was going to work if it was at all. I tried applying it to the lash line, which worked okay. As soon as I moved onto do my wing it was completely dry. I had it open for around a minute, and it was dry already?! I’m not the quickest person at applying liner, but I am not slow enough to allow the nib to dry! So I put the lid back on, gave it a shake and tried for the second time to apply a wing. The shape of the nib made it pretty hard to try and get a sharp wing, let alone the fact it kept drying out on me. I instantly knew this wasn’t for me, removed the makeup, threw it in the bin, and didn’t give it a second thought; Until now.
NYX Full Coverage Concealer Jar
This was another product I was really looking forward to using! I had seen this product all over the social media platforms, working really well for everyone who had tried it. I went into the Boots, picked up the lightest shade I seen, took it home and applied it straight away. As soon as I put this on my under eyes I knew it was the wrong colour. The undertone to this concealer is far too yellow for my skin. As well as the creasing problem I had! I set my undereye area with my normal powder, only to find just a few hours after the concealer was super creased.
I have recently found this product works for me when I am doing a cut crease on my lids – which is not very often!
PS… Amplif-eyed Mascara
I have been on the lookout for a cruelty-free replacement to the Maybelline Lash Sensational for the longest time! I saw this in Primark, while I was searching for a full face of makeup. Instantly, I wanted to try it. Not only has Primark upped their Makeup game, but the rose gold packaging was something that I couldn’t just leave in the shop. I applied the first layer, only to realise the formula was far too wet. The mascara then ended up on the lid as well as below my eyes – How this happened I will never know! I decided to leave the bottle open overnight, and try for a second time the following day. I had the exact same problem, I don’t know how long I was supposed to leave this open for, but the one night just didn’t work out for me! This was the only problem I faced with this. I loved the way it made my lashes look, there were no clumps. Just a smooth layer of Mascara – I just need to try and dry this out?
Makeup Revolution Liquid Highlighter
I love Makeup Revolution products, almost all of them have worked for me. Besides this one! As soon as I seen this released I knew I needed the ‘Unicorn Elixer’ shade. The perfect holographic purple shade – which is still a massive trend now! The first time I tried this I was instantly turned off. Using the dropper onto the top of the cheekbones, on top of the foundation I had applied. The foundation instantly started breaking up underneath, looking patchy. I then tried again underneath the foundation, the product just rejected anything I was trying to apply. I then went in with the silicone sponge, and a B. sponge, nothing seemed to work for me. As soon as it was applied to the skin it instantly dried, not allowing any time for blending. Not to mention the texture, it felt like some sort of oil with chunks of glitter in.
Having dry skin is the bane of my life. All of the full coverage foundations I have tried will cling to the dry patches I have, as well as oxidising on them!
Sleek Contour Kit
Having pale skin is something I really struggle with as well. Trying to find some sort of cream contour kit, that works for my skin tone is a struggle. The Sleek one is something that looked really promising! As soon as I started to apply it, the colours were looking far too orange for me. Instead of giving my face a nice structure, I just ended up looking as if I had mud all over my face. A little of the product goes a long way, so applying too much, blending it into the skin. There was no way for me to get out of this.
MUA Pro-Base Fixing Mist
As much as I love a good setting spray this just isn’t cutting it for me. I like to apply my mascara just before I apply my setting spray. This particular product seems to spray far too much at once, meaning the mascara that I have just applied is now going all over my face. The spray is just too strong for my liking, I much prefer a slight mist. I also feel it doesn’t really make any difference whether I do or don’t apply this, I don’t think it makes much of a difference on how long the makeup will stay for.
Have you purchased anything you can’t get on with? Thanks for reading,
